Cookie policy

This website sets no cookies. Not essential ones, not analytics, not advertising. That is why you have not been asked to accept anything.

No cookies, and what that means

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so it can recognise you later. This site asks for none. It is a set of static pages with no login, no basket, no session and no personalisation, so there is nothing for a cookie to remember.

We also use none of the things that usually accompany cookies:

  • No analytics. No Google Analytics or any equivalent. We do not measure visits, referrers or page views.
  • No advertising or remarketing tags, and no social media pixels.
  • No session recording or heat mapping.
  • No local storage or session storage. The Home Energy Assessment holds your answers in the page while you use it and writes nothing to your device. Closing the tab discards them.

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, consent is needed before storing anything on your device that is not strictly necessary. We store nothing at all, so there is nothing to seek consent for. A banner asking permission to set no cookies would be theatre.

The one third-party request

Each page loads the Montserrat typeface from Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to a Google server which includes your IP address. That is a network request, not a cookie: nothing is stored on your device by it. It is the only request this site makes to a third party. Our privacy policy covers it too.

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which processes the technical request needed to send you the page. We receive no server logs from it.

Controlling cookies anyway

Every browser lets you see and delete cookies and block them by site. You will find nothing from us to delete, but the controls are in your browser’s privacy settings if you want to check rather than take our word for it.

If this changes

If we later add analytics, or connect the assessment to a system that needs to remember your progress, this page will list each cookie — its name, purpose, whether it is ours or a third party’s, and how long it lasts — and a consent mechanism will appear for anything that is not strictly necessary. We will do that before switching it on, not after.
